about

“Warning Signs” is a summery, ‘70s R&B/disco-influenced song that is about the complicated feelings I have around the human devastation of our planet. It’s about feeling responsible and helpless at the same time while watching record temperatures spark wildfires that are destroying forests and our homes.

So, basically Summer hit vibes, but make it about “stayin’ alive…” 🫠

lyrics

I’ve been trucking along
Going about all my days like I know what I want,
Like there ain’t nothin’ wrong

I’ve been dreaming away
Hoping we’ll get to grow old, and we won’t have to watch as we all
Fan the flames

We are the melting arctic ice
We are the California fires
We are the heat that makes the oceans rise
We are the smoke-filled summer skies
We’re burning up all the mountainsides
We are the ones who ignore all the warning signs

And you know it’s such a shame
We’ve let it get this way
Let it all go to waste
Oh, babe

I don’t know where to start
But I know that we’re all better off if we don’t have to hide
Who we are

I don’t know how it ends
I just know that the damage is done and we’ll die if we don’t
Make amends

We are the melting arctic ice
We are the California fires
We are the heat that makes the oceans rise
We are the smoke-filled summer skies
We’re burning up all the mountainsides
We are the ones who ignore all the warning signs

I’ve been trucking along
Going about all my days like I know what I want,
Like there ain’t nothin’ wrong
