I’ve been trucking along Going about all my days like I know what I want, Like there ain’t nothin’ wrong I’ve been dreaming away Hoping we’ll get to grow old, and we won’t have to watch as we all Fan the flames We are the melting arctic ice We are the California fires We are the heat that makes the oceans rise We are the smoke-filled summer skies We’re burning up all the mountainsides We are the ones who ignore all the warning signs And you know it’s such a shame We’ve let it get this way Let it all go to waste Oh, babe I don’t know where to start But I know that we’re all better off if we don’t have to hide Who we are I don’t know how it ends I just know that the damage is done and we’ll die if we don’t Make amends We are the melting arctic ice We are the California fires We are the heat that makes the oceans rise We are the smoke-filled summer skies We’re burning up all the mountainsides We are the ones who ignore all the warning signs I’ve been trucking along Going about all my days like I know what I want, Like there ain’t nothin’ wrong

about

An indie-pop/rock album at its core, Where Trees Once Made a Sound is brimming with popular music influences that span from the late ‘60s through the ‘90s. From a disco-funk song about the perils of climate change (Warning Signs) to a dirty-pop fantasy about waiting for a lover to come home from work (All Night for You), Muzquiz, along with her brother Ramon Muzquiz and producer Sean Flora (The Shins, Beth Ditto), crafted each song with its own distinct palette. Throughout the record, Muzquiz yearns for something just out of her reach, whether it’s a lover, bittersweet moments from her past, or how to exist in a world she perceives as falling apart.
